The Oyo State Government has announced that work will soon commence on the feeder roads across the state. This project is funded through the €3.5 million World Bank-assisted Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).
Governor Seyi Makinde shared this update in his newsletter dated July 28. He stated, “We chose to first concentrate on creating a network of roads that link the five zones of our dear state before moving on to work on the inner city or feeder roads.”
Governor Makinde expressed his gratitude to the people of Oyo State for their support of the current administration’s infrastructure policies and approach to development.
In a related development, the state government has prohibited all former Private Sector Participants (PSPs) from engaging in refuse evacuation activities within the state. Addressing the new waste management system in Oyo State, Governor Makinde acknowledged that some disengaged PSPs have continued to operate in the state.
He warned them to cease their activities and not interfere with the operations of the new waste managers. “We are aware that some PSPs, who have been disengaged by the state, are still evacuating waste from some residential and commercial areas. Let me use this medium to warn them to desist from further encroaching on the activities of the new solid waste managers,” Makinde said.
The Governor identified Mottainai Recycling Ltd as the only recognized solid waste manager in the state and directed action against any PSPs and those who continue to do business with them.
Governor Makinde called for the support of the residents of Oyo State, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in the success of the new waste management structure. He urged residents to register for door-to-door/commercial waste evacuation with the new managers and to stop illegal dumping of waste on medians and streets.
The Governor reiterated his commitment to delivering good governance and ensuring that Oyo State maintains its status as a pacesetter among Nigerian states. “We will not relent until we reach the finish line,” he affirmed.
